Chulalongkorn Day Garlands For Royalty

Naturally, Bangkok is the heart of Thailand with coveted shopping, leisure and entertainment districts. This Southeast Asian gem is home to some of the greatest travel destinations in Asia but also bears a rich history.

On Chulongkorn Day many Thais place wreaths on the statues in the Royal Plaza in Dusit District. The monument is of a small man-made on a horse. It is of prime significance since it depicts one of Thailand's greatest kings, King Chulongkorn and was built to honour the iconic figures. The statue was made two years before his death by a Parisian craftsman.

Many Thais gather to the Royal Plaza and garland the statue on Chulongkorn Day accompanied by many activities done in remembrance of this great king. The extent of his influence can be seen tothis day, where his picture is placed in every house. They also believe that the King has special powers that bring wealth and good luck to all those who pay homage to him.

The Royal Plaza is located near the Dusit Zoo. The mix of Thai and European architecture borne by the buildings in this area are structures that were built during King Chulongkorn's reign and are typical of his period.
